Figaro Named EL Pitcher of the Week!

SeaWolves right-hander Alfredo Figaro is the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 14th.

The Samana, Dominican Republic native won the award for the second time this season after posting a record of 2-0 with 18 strikeouts and a 2.51 ERA in 14.1 innings pitched last week.

Figaro made his first appearance of the week on Tuesday night against Portland and pitched seven strong innings to earn the win as Erie downed Portland 11-2. He struck out eight batters and did not issue a walk while giving up two runs on five hits.

The 24-year old was equally impressive in his second start of the week on Sunday against New Hampshire, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk while striking out 10 batters over 7.1 innings in a 7-2 win over the Fisher Cats.

The 6'0", 175 lb. hurler led all Eastern League pitchers in strikeouts and innings pitched last week and also tied for the league lead in wins.

Figaro, who has posted a record of 5-2 with a 4.10 ERA in 11 starts with the SeaWolves this season and is currently tied for third in the league in WHIP (1.07), ranked fifth in strikeouts (59) and tied for seventh in wins, was signed by the Detroit Tigers as a minor league free agent on March 7, 2005.
