Erie Falls to Akron in Season Finale
Shawn Roof connected on his first career home run on Monday at Akron.

The SeaWolves season ended on Monday afternoon with a 9-3 loss to the Akron Aeros at Canal Park.

Akron struck first in the bottom of the first inning against Erie starter Ramon Garcia. Jose Constanza led off with a single and moved to second on a Shawn Roof throwing error. Josh Rodriguez then singled and on an error by Chris White in right, Constanza scored for a 1-0 lead. Rodrigeuz would later score on a Matt McBride base hit for a 2-0 lead.

The 'Wolves struck back in the top of the second inning against Akron starter Scott Barnes. With two outs, Roof homered to dead center to make it a 2-1 game. The home run for Roof was the first of his career.

Akron would go back up by two in the bottom of the second when John Drennen homered to right with one out for a 3-1 lead.

Erie would again cut the lead down to a run in the third when Danny Worth led off with a double and moved to third on an error. White then hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Worth to make it 3-2.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Aeros would take a commanding lead. Carlos Rivero led off with a double and moved to third on a single by Drennen. Jared Goedert then doubled home River for a 4-2 Akron lead and giving the Aeros runners in scoring position for Constanza. Constanza singled home Drennen to make it 5-2. Rodriguez then grounded to Roof at second and an error allowed Goedert to score for a 6-2 lead. Akron would take an 8-2 advantage when Carlos Santana connected on a two-run home run, his 23rd.

In the top of the eighth, White led off with a solo home run into the bullpen in right center to make it 8-3. The home run for White was his second.

Akron would go ahead by six once again in the bottom of the eighth when Drennen homered for the second time in the game to make it 9-3.

The SeaWolves finished the 2009 season with a 71-70 record.
