Cron, the 14th manager in SeaWolves history, has been a manager in the minor leagues for the last 16 seasons, 13 of which were spent in the Chicago White Sox organization. His most recent assignment was with Class-A Great Falls where he spent the last four seasons. Cron has also managed at every level in the minor leagues.
Cron, a native of Albuquerque, NM, was originally a second round pick in the 1984 amateur draft by the Atlanta Braves. He played in 1,250 minor league games and appeared in a total of 12 major league games (Six with the California Angels in 1991 and six with the White Sox in 1992). His playing career spanned 11 seasons from 1984-1995.
Cron replaces Phil Nevin who was named as the manager of Triple-A Toledo in November. Nevin led the SeaWolves to a 66-76 record in his only season as the club's manager.
Joining Cron will be hitting coach Jerry Martin in his first season with the Tigers organization. Ray Burris returns for his fourth season as the team's pitching coach while Chris McDonald returns as the team's Athletic Trainer for the sixth consecutive season.
