The Rock Cats struck first in the bottom of the second against Erie starter Ramon Garcia. With two outs, Evan Bigley sent a fly ball to left that Rawley Bishop dropped. The error put Bigley in scoring position for Matt Rizzotti who singled to right, scoring Bigley for a 1-0 lead.
Erie responded in the top of the third against Rock Cats starter B.J. Hermsen. Corey Jones led off with a single and moved to third on a Jamie Johnson base knock. Brandon Douglas singled home Jones, tying the game at 1-1. Niuman Romero followed and reached on force out as Johnson was put out trying to score from third. Jordan Lennerton then singled home Douglas for a 2-1 Erie edge. Rawley Bishop then lifted a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Romero for a 3-1 lead.
The 'Wolves added to the lead in the fourth. With one out, Jones came up with his second of three hits, a triple down the right field line. It was the first triple of the season for Jones who scored on a Johnson sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead.
The three-run lead would prove to be enough for Garcia (5-5) who worked out of danger in the third (bases loaded) fourth and sixth innings en route to the win. He tossed eight innings, allowing an unearned run on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts. It was the third time this season Garcia worked eight innings in a winning effort.
Kenny Faulk worked a scoreless ninth, nailing down his fourth save and an Erie win.
The winning streak is Erie's longest on the road since the club won five straight June 11-22 last season.
The SeaWolves look for five straight wins and a series sweep on Sunday afternoon against the Rock Cats at New Britain Stadium...1:35 First Pitch. RHP Patrick Cooper (0-0, 5.91 ERA) takes the mound for Erie against LHP Andrew Albers (3-1, 3.56 ERA).
